Frequently Asked Questions

We have collected some of the more common questions that parents have asked about our scouting program.  If you can't find the answer here please fill out the contact us form or e-mail us directly at scoutpack464@gmail.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Where and when does the pack meet?

Pack 464 meets on Monday at 7pm at the Fort Allen Elementary School in Greensburg, Pa. ( DIRECTIONS )

How often are the meetings?

We generally meet 2 to 3 times a month as individual dens and the once a month for a pack meeting.

Can I just drop my child off and leave?

Please, Please, PLEASE! Make sure you understand this: WE ARE NOT RUNNING A BABY SITTING SERVICE!!! BSA doesn't stand for Baby Sitters of America. This is not someplace where you can drop your children off for an hour or so while you run some errands. Scouting is a family program. You will be expected to stay at the meeting with your son and help him out if you can in any way possible, along with the other parents, to make your sons den run smoothly. Pack meetings are for the whole family.

What about breaks and holidays? Do you still have meetings those days?

Here is the Rule of Thumb: If the school is closed for the day due to holiday or weather, we don't meet. If school closes early for weather, we don't meet. There are one or two other days -- that we have learned from experience -- that it doesn't pay to hold a meeting, such as the day before Thanksgiving (everyone's out of town). You will be notified of those days as we get to them, or simply look on our scouting calendar here on our website.

Are the uniforms expensive. Does he have to get the whole uniform?

Since proper uniforming is spelled out in Boy Scouts of America guidelines as one of the means of achieving the goals of Scouting, We expect all boys to be uniformed, but Pack 464 only requires a waist up only uniform. Parents will need to only purchase the shirt, scarf and neck slide.

My son is (allergic to [fill in the blank], learning disabled, ADD, ADHD, physically challenged, emotionally challenged, etc.). Can he still be in Cub Scouts?

Yes! Our Cub Scout program welcomes all boys. The Cub Scout program is adaptable to many special needs, and there are program and training materials to help Cub Scout leaders adapt the program to the situation. There are also programs to teach the boys to understand those that may be a little different than they are. However, it is important that the Pack and Den leadership be made aware of these cases so that we can deal with any problems or situations that may arise. Please be sure to note any special needs or conditions we need to know about. You should also plan to stay at all of the meetings, which is required for all parents of Cub scouts in all age groups.

When Writing Checks, who should they be made out to?

Cub Scout Pack 464.

I Have a daughter in elementary school, can she join cubscouts

No. Cub Scouts is only for boys. The Girl Scouts have a program for young girls. They are not part of the Boy Scouts.
